It was launched in 1995 to promote research in the field of multilingual alignment. The first 2-year period (96-97) was dedicated to two main tasks: 1) producing a reference bilingual corpus (French-English) aligned at sentence level; 2) evaluating several sentence alignment systems through an ARPA-like competition.</Paragraph> <Paragraph position="1"> In the first phase of ARCADE, two types of teams were involved in the project: the corpus providers (LPL and RALI) and the (RALI, LO-ILIA, ISSCO, IRMC and LIA). General coordination was handled by J. V~ronis (LPL); a discussion group was set up and moderated by Ph. Langlais (LIA & KTH).</Paragraph> </Section> class="xml-element"></Paper>
