2 Transformation-based learning
</SectionTitle>
    <Paragraph position="0"> TBL is a general machine learning tool for assigning classes to a sequence of observations. TBL induces a set of transformational rules, which apply in sequence to change the class assigned to observations which meet the rules' conditions.</Paragraph>
    <Paragraph position="1"> We use the software package fnTBL to design the model described here. This package, and the TBL framework itself, are described in detail by Ngai and Florian (2001).</Paragraph>
