<?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?> <Paper uid="P98-1085"> <Title>Definiteness Predictions for Japanese Noun Phrases*</Title> <Section position="8" start_page="524" end_page="524" type="concl"> <SectionTitle> 6 Conclusion </SectionTitle> <Paragraph position="0"> In this paper, we have developed an efficient algorithm for the assignment of definiteness attributes to Japanese noun phrases that makes use of syntactic and semantic information.</Paragraph> <Paragraph position="1"> Within the domain of appointment scheduling, the integration of our rule hierarchy reduces the need for computationally expensive context checking to 20,5% of all relevant noun phrases, as 79,5% are already assigned a value with a precision of 98,9%.</Paragraph> <Paragraph position="2"> Even though the current framework is to a large extent domain specific, we believe that it may be easily extended to other domains by adding appropriate rules.</Paragraph> </Section> class="xml-element"></Paper>
