CONCLUSIONS </SectionTitle> <Paragraph position="0"> SemEval holds out the promise of shifting the focus of language-understanding evaluation from specific application tasks to genetic technology. It is hoped that this will lower the overhead of participation in evaluations and focus the efforts of participating sites on key technological issues, thereby accelerating the rate of progress in the field. A substantial start has been made on defining SemEvM for spoken-language understanding, but much work remains to be done. Over the next few months we expect to see these efforts converge on a workable plan for a spoken-language SemEval in late 1994.</Paragraph> </Section> class="xml-element"></Paper>
