    <Paragraph position="0"> The quality of the English in a Japanese to English Machine Translation system can be improved by the method proposed in this paper. This method uses the information available in the original Japanese sentence along with information about English countability at both the noun phrase and noun level that can be stored in Japanese to English transfer dictionaries. Incorporating this method into the machine translation system ALT-J/E helped to improve the percentage of noun phrases with correctly generated articles and nmnber from 65% to 73%.</Paragraph>
