    <Paragraph position="0"> We have attempted to evolve the QLF and LF languages gradually by a process of adding minimal extensions to first order logic, in order to facilitate future work on natural language systems with reasoning capabilities. The separation of the two semantic representation levels has been an important guiding principle in the implementation of a system covering a substantial fragment of English semantics in a well-motivated way.</Paragraph>
    <Paragraph position="1"> Further work is in progress on the treatment of collective readings and of tense and aspect.</Paragraph>
