    <Paragraph position="0"> This paper shows how to use clustering criterion functionsasameansofautomaticallyselectingthe number of senses k in an ambiguous word. We have found that PK2, a ratio of the criterion functions for the current and previous value of k, is  most effective, although there are many opportunities for future improvements to these techniques.</Paragraph>
