    <Paragraph position="0"> We have presented a method for automatically learning structural paraphrases from aligned monolingual corpora that overcomes the limitation of previous approaches. In addition, we have sketched how this technology can be applied to enhance the performance of a question answering system based on indexing relations. Although we have not completed a task-based evaluation, we believe that the ability to handle variations in language is key to building better question answering systems.</Paragraph>
